Philosophy

Behind the foundation of Beaubien, there was a long-time passion for great, hard-to-find products, and the idea of supporting and introducing fresh brands to Paris. I was inspired by the new wave of menswear retailers, labels and blogs that emerged in the 2010s.

I personally handpicked every item part of the selection with a focus on high-quality, easy-to-wear but not ordinary casual clothing. Products were sourced internationally (Japan, Scandinavia, UK, France, US). I paid a lot of attention to the materials, textures and potential patina. It was also important for me to appeal to anyone into quality products, fashion-minded or not, of any age, so versatility, comfort and cut of the garments were key elements.

Strong identity, independence and the ability to design durable clothing were the most important things when selecting brands. Brands I worked with all had a strong direction from season to season, a focus on quality and an attention to detail. I generally collaborated with them for many seasons, so they had to be reliable partners.

Most of the stocked brands found inspiration in vintage clothing (workwear, military, sportswear), while some of them had more contemporary references like Scandinavian minimalism when designing their collections. The Beaubien signature outfit was a mix of updated basics and more sophisticated pieces, all cut in a slightly relaxed fit.

Starting each season from a blank page, it was really exciting and challenging to mix all the brands and products together in a relevant selection.

The place

Call it simplicity or minimalism, but "keep it simple" and "focus on the products" are definitely what define the store itself, a relatively small place, with a very simple, clean display dedicated only to what it is made for: raw wooden floor, white walls, copper racks, Stockman busts and vintage Scandinavian furniture.
